Who in the hell is Big Meech & Larry Hoover?!?!

The 1st time I heard this song was when I was on my way back to home from Miami Memorial Day Weekend (Which was a splendid time might I add LOL). Rick Ross's street team was passing out his mixtape "The Albert Anastasia EP".

So I decided to ride home to it since I only live an hour away from South Beach. "B.M.F." is track #3 on the mixtape and when I first heard it, not only did I fall in love with it, but I start thinking to myself "Hmmm...I know I heard of them names before", LOL. Now Larry Hoover is a name I learn in college and the show that BET used to run "American Gangstas" LOL. But the name Big Meech I heard from the rappers such as Fabolous and Young Jeezy numerous times. So after I played the song about 15x back to back, I started thinking...WTF did these guys really do? So I did what anybody else would do...Wikipedia...LOL!

Big Meech

The Black Mafia Family (BMF), was a multi-million dollar drug trafficking organization originally from Detroit, Michigan, with direct links to Mexican based drug-trafficking cartels and with major hubs in Atlanta and Los Angeles, that in 2000 dove into the world of hip-hop music and entertainment, successfully promoting not only Young Jeezy but also BMF Entertainment's sole artist, Bleu DaVinci. Founders and brothers Demetrius (Big Meech) and Terry (Southwest T) Flenory would ultimately be convicted of running a Continuing Criminal Enterprise and sentenced to 30 years to life.

The Black Mafia Family was known for throwing upwards of $20,000 in $1 bills in the air and at strippers when at the club. They frequented many upscale Buckhead area clubs outside Atlanta; to name a few: Club Chaos, Velvet Room, Justin's, and Compound (where "Meech" had a lavish birthday party for himself, with live displays of exotic animals, costing well over $100,000.) Receipts found in a house that was allegedly one of Meech's showed cash purchases of over $23,000, in a single trip, to Bang & Olufsen, a high-end audio retailer located inside Phipps Plaza. When going to the club, upper-level members would be seen in their own individual high-end luxury cars. In one commonly available video, it shows a Rolls-Royce Phantom, Bentley Continental GT, Lamborghini Murcielago, and Aston Martin Vanquish all parked together and all owned by BMF members.

In October 2005, it was reported that some 30 members of BMF were arrested in a massive drug raid orchestrated by the DEA. During these raids, the DEA seized $3 million in cash and assets, 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, and numerous weapons. Prior to the October 2005 raids, throughout the course of the investigation, the DEA had arrested 17 BMF members, seized 632 kilograms of cocaine, $5.3 million in cash, and $5.7 million in assets. They would claim BMF was responsible for moving over 2,500 kilograms of cocaine a month throughout the United States.

Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory, as well as his brother Terry "Southwest T" Flenory, was charged with continuing criminal enterprise (similar to Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) except used in drug cases) conspiracy to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine, conspiracy to launder monetary instruments, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine. Demetrius was captured in a large home in a suburb outside Dallas. Inside, police found a small amount of marijuana and a few MDMA, or ecstasy, pills. In a safe inside the house were several weapons; a Springfield .40 pistol, FN Herstal 5.7x28 pistol, and a Para Ordinance .45 pistol. Outside and in the garage were a 2005 Bentley Continental GT, a 2004 Ford F-150 truck, and a 2004 Dodge Magnum station wagon.

Larry Hoover

Larry Hoover (born November 30, 1950) is a convicted American murderer and the alleged leader of the Gangster Disciples gang (also known as the Black Gangster Disciple Nation) in Chicago. Hoover is reputed to be the leader of the gang in spite of the fact that he has been in prison continuously since 1973.

On February 26, 1973, Hoover and another Gangster Disciple, Andrew Howard, shot and killed William Young over a debt. Both were later arrested and sentenced to 150-200 years in prison. Howard was paroled in 1992. In 1974, after the death of David Barksdale, Hoover was appointed the new leader of the BGDN.

Two years later, Jerome Freeman left the BGDN, making the Black Disciples and the Black Gangster Disciples separate gang organizations. Even in prison, Hoover gave orders to his gang members and directed their illegal drug trade. On July 22, 1978, an inmate riot at the Pontiac Correctional Center in Illinois resulted in the death of three corrections officers. This uprising was rumored to have been ordered by Hoover. 21 inmates were indicted; ten were acquitted after an 11-week trial. Charges against Hoover and seven others were eventually dropped.

Hoover's continued involvement with the gang prompted a federal investigation. The five-year undercover investigation by the federal government led to drug conspiracy, extortion, and other criminal charges against Hoover. On August 31, 1995 Hoover was arrested at the Vienna Correctional Center by federal agents and moved to the MCC Chicago. In 1997 Hoover and six associates were found guilty of these charges, and Hoover was transferred to a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana to serve a life sentence. Hoover is currently serving a life sentence at the Supermax ADX Florence facility in Florence, Colorado.
